FOUND Polaroids Book | 03.01.07

polaroids_cover_sm.jpgAfter a bit of a delay my FOUND Polaroids book arrived recently and brother was it worth the wait!

The lost pictures are a playground for the mind, all hints and maybes – an older woman poses with two figures in huge Beavis and Butthead costumes, a youngster brings a giant spoon of ice cream to his gaping mouth while in ballpoint pen a caption proclaims: “Jon eating ice cream.” The flood of questions comes for each – who? when? and how did this small jewel end up among discarded clothes, books, or plain garbage?

Each image has a note about the finder or the the find; my favorite comes from someone who found a Polaroid face down and waited most of the day to turn it over, all the while allowing his mind to create it’s own galaxy of possibilities before flipping it to reveal the single instant the Polaroid had captured. That, to me, is a scintillating suspense.
